This is a 2-part conversation that I had with Timberline Church’s Executive Pastor Rob Cowles about how we can navigate through those tough times in our lives when we feel disappointed with God.

  1. Thanks guys. Really good points and said in such clarity. I’ve had more times then I can count where I’ve been disappointed with God but you know what? For me, it was my lack of knowledge in who God was, who the enemy was and the evil in this world. Going through some very hard times in my life has made me who I am today, blessed with passions, talents, faith and dreams. Coming from the families I came from and if not for the struggles of my life, I know that I would not be the mother, friend and child of God that He’s grown me to be today. One of the greatest promises of God for me has been “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” In times of abuse, neglect, agandonment, danger and fear, I see God in my life through every part of it. He didnt bring these things into my life but He allowed them, all the while, suffering along with me. You mentioned, while you’re going through the storms of life, it’s hard to not be disappointed, but we are never promised a happy life, in fact we’re told we will suffer. I would compare my life to other Christians and non Christians alike. Why did they have loving parents? Why did they have food to eat? Why were they nurtured and cared about? Why, why, why? The why will probably never be answered but it becomes less imortant when you look at what you gained from your struggle. Compassion for one. Because of what I lived through, I can walk with others who have similar wounding and show compassion. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
