The Old Testament is filled with stories of real men and women and their relationships with the loving God who created them and us. We will journey through their world learning about their successes and failure. We will start during the time of the patriarchs (Genesis) and conclude with the return of the exiles to Jerusalem (Malachi). From their stories, we can gain vast knowledge and wisdom.While the men and women of the Old Testament lived in a vastly different time and culture, their stories are fascinating and helpful to us today. Actually, (1) God’s nature is the same now as it was then; (2) Human nature is the same now as it was then; (3) The truths and principles demonstrated by their stories remain timeless. Our class goals include:

This class will take place Sunday mornings @ 9:45 a.m. in room #212.

  • Meeting Old Testament people in the context of their culture and history.
  • Locating the places and events that surrounded their stories.
  • Learning the chronology of these Old Testament stories.
  • Reviewing the New Testament principles that apply to their stories.
  • Understanding why these particular stories are preserved for us.
  • Creating a desire to study the Old Testament.
  • Improve our understanding of the New Testament personalities.
  • We will meet a new person each Sunday. While time will limit the depth of each Sunday’s character studies, some study aids will be provided for a more in-depth study.
