I serve at Timberline Church as Pastor of Spiritual Formation (www.loveteaches.org). I also serve as an undergraduate instructor with Dayspring Center for Christian Studies, and speak under Brent Cunningham Ministries, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) ministry.
I am passionate about presenting a coherent and winsome portrait of the Christian faith while seeking to cultivate dialogue between Christianity and other worldviews. I earned the M.A. in Philosophy of Religion from Denver Seminary, and a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Grand Canyon University. My additional studies include New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Focus Leadership Institute, and I am a member of the Evangelical Philosophical Society. Prior to being on staff at Timberline Church, I developed and taught the Bible curriculum at Loveland Christian High School. I also taught in Cheju do, S. Korea. Most importantly, I am a husband to my beautiful wife, Kristen, and a proud father of our four wonderful children.

Decision making & the will of God January 22, 2007

Do you have an intentional process that you go through in your mind when you need to make an important decision? Arguably, the most asked question that people solicit God for is something like, “What should I do in this situation?” The situation might be a job, a relationship, a relocation, a school, a purchase, etc. We want to know God’s will. And we get frustrated, thinking that God is being evasive. We wonder why God would not just reveal His specific will for our specific situations, especially when we’re asking Him for it and we’re only too willing to follow it. After all, doesn’t He seem to care a lot about us listening to and following Him? Then why does He make it so difficult? How can we discover God’s will in our lives? Why Hinduism is self-defeating January 15, 2007

Hinduism refers to the religious beliefs and practices of the people of India, even though there is an enormous amount of diversity among those beliefs and practices. Hindus themselves favor the name sanatana dharma which means “everlasting law” or “eternal teaching.” This speaks of the eternally unfolding nature of their religious teachings.
Hinduism is one of the world’s oldest (at least 3000 B.C.) and most popular religions, involving about 1 billion adherents (1/6 of the world’s current population). But what remained an “eastern” religion for so many millennia has recently made significant inroads to the West through the missionary travel of various gurus within the USA beginning toward the end of the 1800’s (the New Age Movement is Hinduism meets ‘fast-food’ Americanism). 4 spiritual exercises for dealing with your past January 10, 2007
Posted by Brent Cunningham in : blog , 2 commentsPrint This Post | Email to a Friend
As I read the Old Testament, I’m constantly struck by how often God uses the word, “remember.” In fact, this word seems to be one of the most important concepts throughout the history of God’s people. God seems to be constantly telling the Israelites to remember one event or another from their past. He even commands them to commemorate many elements from the past in ceremonies and festivals. The Jewish calendar is scattered with commemorative holidays, each tied back to a moment in time when a significant event happened.
Each one of us has a past. And as each year passes, the cumulative sizes of our pasts enlarge. I’d like to suggest four spiritual exercises that I’ve come across, which God has given us in order to deal with our pasts. (more…)

What does the Bible say about suicide? January 7, 2007
Posted by Brent Cunningham in : blog , 2 commentsPrint This Post | Email to a Friend
I’ve heard people inquire whether or not the act of committing suicide is the or an unforgivable sin? Is the person who commits suicide condemning him or herself to hell? Can’t a person choose suicide, as it’s not harming anyone else? “After all, it is my life, isn’t it?” Does God have anything to say about suicide in the Bible?
DOES SUICIDE APPEAR IN THE BIBLE?
Suicide does appear in the Bible. The five instances of it, that I’m aware of, are: (more…)
My New Year’s Resolutions & Tips for goal setting January 3, 2007
Posted by Brent Cunningham in : blog , 4 commentsPrint This Post | Email to a Friend
Do you make New Year’s Resolutions? I’ve never been that enthusiastic about setting goals simply because of a calendar change. Maybe it was because I knew so many people who had such grandiose ideas of how they were going to “turn over a new leaf” in the new year. However, none of their friends ever really saw much change.  And sure enough, the next year, they’d be pulling out the same old ‘new’ resolution. Still, with each passing year I find myself more inclined to reflect what things I’d like to have change in my life as the New Year rolls around. I don’t know if it’s that I’m thinking differently or if my life is becoming more complex and therefore, is in need of greater retuning and recalibrating. So, here are a few New Year’s resolutions that I’m setting for myself and some tips that I’ve come across for how to set New Year’s resolutions. Homosexuality: A Biblical & Sociological Exploration (Rm 211 @ 9:45) 5-week Seminar January 1, 2007
Posted by Brent Cunningham in : Old EQUIP , add a commentPrint This Post | Email to a Friend

Dan Banuelos & Pastor Brent (contact us @ contactus@timberlinechurch.org)
This 5-week seminar will be taught by Daniel Baneulos and Pastor Brent Cunningham.Â
Dan Baneulos serves as a professional counselor within academia. He is also the founder of “True Diversity Task Force.”
Whether you are a student, parent, working professional, retired person, or just a ‘couch potato,’ it’s likely that you are being bombarded by our culture with the issue of homosexuality. What questions are there in your mind about this issue? What is its cause? Is the gay life-style a choice, a biological predisposition, or something else?  How ought we think biblically and reasonably about such a culturally relevant topic?
This 5-week seminar will equip you to engage our culture on the topic of homosexuality with truth, love, and tact. You’ll learn the tactics of the GLBT movement employed in “diversity” and “tolerance” trainings, as well as how to respond in real-life dialogue.Â
This short seminar is open to everyone.
February 25: The causation of homosexuality: biology or sociology?Â
March 4: True diversity: being equipped with the tools to address the issue
March 11: The socialization of homosexuality: tactics of the GLBT movement in education & media
March 18: The Bible & Homosexuality: Setting the Record Straight (taught by Pastor Brent)
March 25: Responding to objections / Q&A (Pastor Brent & Dan Banuelos)
This class is designed as a 5-week training seminar and will take place Sunday mornings @ 9:45 a.m. in room #211.

This is your opportunity to become acquainted with the Bible that Christians have come to love.
Additionally, each week we will have side studies that will help you to understand what we believe as Christians.
There is much we can learn about God as He reveals Himself through His Book. Join us as we explore God’s Word that feeds our souls and renews our hope of everlasting life.Â

Roger Hageman (Contact me @: contactus@timberlinechurch.org)
Our goal as we study the Bible will be to equip ourselves in order to live a godly Christian life—to develop in spiritual strength and to grow in wisdom and power with God.  We will investigate how we can build a dynamic, lasting relationship with our Creator, as well as uncover several “hard sayings of the Bible, such as:
.
Does God change His mind?Â
Are the covenant blessings of God conditional? Â
What does it mean to give back to God?
Does God still heal today?
What are the different manifestations of the Holy Spirit?               This class will take place Sunday mornings @ 9:45 a.m. in room #202.
